## HCL Domino and Lotus Notes

Worth stating plainly, because it is the most specialised thing here and the
naming trips people up. **HCL Domino, IBM Domino and Lotus Notes are the same
platform under three owners.** Lotus built it. IBM bought Lotus in 1995. HCL
bought the product in 2019.

Yarra Tech has worked on it without a break since Notes R4 in 1994:

- Ran the second largest Domino/Notes global network worldwide (behind IBM's
  own) for a Big Four professional services firm in China. Eight offices, 1,500
  staff, 15 servers, roughly 2,500 databases, including a flat to hierarchical
  domain merge.
- Ran Domino hosting for around 150 clients for a decade. Roughly 20,000
  authenticating users, 3 million hits and 2 TB of traffic a month, plus the
  migration off physical data centre hardware onto cloud.
- Managed the Notes/Domino development and support team for a Victorian
  government insurer serving over 3,000 business users.
- Delivered migrations off the platform (Domino to .NET, Domino to AWS, Domino
  to web) for resources, insurance and media clients.

Typical jobs: working out what an application does when nobody understands it
any more, auditing an estate before a migration gets costed, ordinary server
administration and replication fixes, and getting data out of NSF into
something current.

## Our own sites, used as worked examples

Built and run by Yarra Tech, which is why they can be described in full where
client work usually cannot:

- **AllSwims.au.** Free public map and directory of Australian swim spots,
  around 2,000 locations. Next.js, PostgreSQL, Leaflet, Vercel. Server-rendered
  so search engines can read it, and the dataset is deliberately not
  bulk-downloadable.
- **WaterLog.au.** Cold-water swimming articles and heritage writing. Migrated
  off WordPress to Contentful. Static site, rebuilt automatically on publish.
- **SeaSwims.Club.** Connects to members' Strava accounts, enriches each swim
  with marine and weather data from Open-Meteo, and pools the results into a
  crowd-sourced sea temperature record by location. Stripe subscriptions.
- **Good4UQuotes.com.** A second live Strava integration. Webhook-driven writes
  back to activity records.
